Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Open a tool, add your file and download the result. There is nothing to sign up for.
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. Very old browsers (for example Internet Explorer) aren’t supported because they lack features the tools need, such as Web Workers.
Does PDF365 work offline?
Processing happens on your device, but each tool’s code is downloaded the first time you use it, so you need a connection to load the tool. Your files are never sent over that connection.
Files and limits
How large can my files be?
Up to 250 MB per file and up to 100 files at a time when merging. Large files need plenty of memory; a laptop or desktop copes better than an older phone.
The page went slow or crashed with a big file. What can I do?
Which file types are accepted?
PDF tools accept PDF files. Image tools accept JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP. Text to PDF accepts .txt, and HTML to PDF accepts .html files. We check the content of each file, not just its name, so a renamed file will be rejected with an explanation.
Where is my downloaded file?
In your browser’s download location, usually the Downloads folder. On iPhone and iPad, look in the Files app under Downloads.
Password-protected and damaged PDFs
A tool says my PDF is password-protected
Encrypted PDFs can’t be edited until they’re decrypted. If you know the password, use Unlock PDF to save an unlocked copy, then use that copy with the tool.
My PDF opens fine but a tool says it has restrictions
Its author set permissions, such as “no editing”, without an open password. If you own the document or have permission, Unlock PDF can remove the restrictions.
A tool says my PDF is damaged
The file may be incomplete (for example an interrupted download) or written by faulty software. Try downloading it again, or open it in a PDF reader and use Print › Save as PDF to create a clean copy.
Privacy
Are my files uploaded?
No. All live tools run in your browser. You can confirm this in your browser’s developer tools, on the Network tab, while processing a file.
Do you keep copies of my files?
We never receive them, so there is nothing to keep. Files exist only in your browser tab’s memory and are cleared when you start over or close the tab.
Is my signature stored?
No. Signatures you draw, type or upload exist only while the Sign PDF page is open.
Results
Compress PDF hardly made my file smaller
It was probably already efficient. Text-based PDFs are compact to begin with; the biggest savings come from scans and photos. See why some PDFs are so large.
My bookmarks disappeared after merging or splitting
Tools that build a new file from copied pages don’t carry over document-wide bookmarks. Rotate, watermark, page numbers, crop, resize and flatten change the file in place and keep them.
Text I added looks slightly different from the preview
The preview uses your device’s fonts to approximate the standard PDF fonts. Position is accurate; letter spacing can differ very slightly.
